Weave Wars was a group exhibition engaging fiber-based craft practices and techniques as catalysts for the discussion and interrogation of today’s complex sociopolitical issues. Drawing upon the legacies of the fiber arts as vessels for communication, protest, and knowledge production, the participating artists leverage the materials and approaches of fiber into nuanced and multivalent investigations of consumerism, performativity, migration, masculinity, and technology, among others. Whether utilizing traditional techniques such as a sewing, quilting, and crochet, or nontraditional materials like pipe cleaners, window screen, and discarded electronics, the exhibited works serve as objects both abundant in craftsmanship and rich in meaning.
