Inappropriation

Co-Curated with Marina Caron, Mary Fellios, and Calvin Wang from the Marieluise Hessel Collection at the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College.

The exhibition Inappropriation brings together ten artists from the Marieluise Hessel Collection whose works adopt a range of appropriative techniques, such as collage, assemblage, recontextualization, and defacement, while simultaneously summoning and taunting social structures—school, the family, and media, among others—that classify behaviors as inappropriate.

Artists: Robert Beck, John Bock, Miguel Calderón, Iza Genzken, K8 Hardy, Rachel Harrison, Mike Kelley, Feng Mengbo, Bruce Nauman, and Sable Elyse Smith.
