Catya Plate: A New Brave New World
Catya Plate: A New Brave New World

Plate writes, "I have always felt the urge to produce work that reclaims the use of once feminized materials and their associated ideals while elevating the small and unassuming. An excellent example of this is the clothespin. This ubiquitous object has been the focus of my attention since the late 90’s. The creation of the “clothespin freaks” with their bodies of clear plastic, doll body parts and sewn pieces, have been the central figures in my films, installations and individual pieces. I see the Clothespin Freaks as catalysts of a new mythology in their/our constantly changing and growing alternate universe. By telling their story, I intend to enlighten and entertain the viewer by emphasizing the importance of one’s imagination in a chaotic and mystifying world."
